Soft Washing-The use of low pressure (100psi) and detergents to force contaminants to release their bond off of any roof surfaces. There has been significant interest in roof washing lately, including a lot of questions about what to use to clean off those black streaks and stains (mold algae also known as ‘gloeocapsa magma’). These stains will significantly affect the look of any building. In the past, the only way to get rid of them was to either pressure wash or replace the roof.
It has been estimated that as much as 50% of all roof replacements have been done because of the appearance of the roof and not actually because of its functionality. There’s no longer a need for HIGH pressure when you run the risk of damaging your surfaces. There are many benefits to keeping your home and building exterior free of the algae, mold and mildew. Some are for aesthetic reasons, while others are for more serious reasons that can cost you a lot more money down the road.
Unfortunately, there is no magic solution to permanently stop the assault of these nasty green and brown organisms that so vigorously attack the surfaces of our homes and roofs here in Trinidad and Tobago. The key is to kill the algae, mold and mildew all the way down to the root. This will allow your surfaces to stay cleaner for much longer than by just blasting away the top layer of filth with a pressure washer, yet leaving the remnants of living spores to quickly take root and re-infest the area.
